We see Lily accepting a cleaning job for a wealthy man in Spain for the duration of the summer.
But as she enters to house she soon sees that it is not what she expected at all.
Mr Darby is controlling, demanding, sadistic man who enjoys the power he has over Lily.
As the days go by she seems to notice certain doors are locked and she is forbidden to enter but this only sparks her interest into finding out,
One night on hearing noises she soon discovers what is behind one of the doors, will she regret looking?
This book was frustrating for me as it could be so much better if there was some history on the two main leads as i felt with this added it could have been much better to understand them and their actions, also Lily was totally submissive from day one there was no fight in her at all, this for me was slightly unbelievable, but I would read further books from this author as i really liked her writing style.

Lily heads to Chateau Oriol where her expectations are to be a maid, a servant to Mr. Darby. Well she definitely services others, all the while battling within herself the continued emptiness of being invisible to those around her. Lily feels less than, unwanted, and rejected. Darby teaches her to submit and accept pain with pleasure. Lily having no experience becomes needy, craving these pairings. Lily was defiled by strangers and this turned my stomach. Her weeping was not from pleasure, it was from disgust which I could relate with from reading these experiences. Lilly's time with the doctor taught her to use her voice, stand up for herself and fight back. Her time with him was my favorite of the book as Lily seemed in more control as well as at the end when she sought after what she knew she wanted. This book provoked strong emotional reactions from me which I can appreciate in a novel, but the situations igniting these emotions were not enjoyable (for my liking). The storyline moved at a steady pace but the character development could have been more thorough. We're aware Lily's upbringing was one that caused her pain, but we know nothing of Darby's past except for his late wife. I would've liked more description of who he is that's led to his current lifestyle. Give this a try and see what you think!! Rating 2.5 stars

This book was a quick read- It was fast paced, everything happened for a reason, and it was "cold". Many scenes occurred of the Dominant/submissive sort - but I never felt the intimacy that scenes of this nature usually evoke.
Lily, a young American virgin, takes a summer job as a maid for a wealthy man in Spain. After a very cold reception, she's immediately thrown into the job. While innocent and naive, she is very eager to please her new employer.
Edward Darby, the millionaire widow, is almost impossible to please. He offers no companionship, nor positive attention of any sort, and is a very hard taskmaster with very dark/sadistic tastes. I like dark stories, but he was just too cruel. I just couldn't appreciate him in any manner - he doesn't possess ONE positive quality. He takes and takes from naive Lily, and in return she just gives and gives - without complaint. Both characters seemed very 1 dimensional and I wished for a bit more assertiveness from her.
While I never "fell in love" with either character, I found it impossible to put this story down! The author did a fantastic job of toying with my emotions and slowly bringing the darkness to light. I'll admit that I enjoyed the writing and constantly found myself comparing this to "The Story of O" -as it truly evoked many similar feelings.

The alpha male Edward is strong, sensual and cruel; he really is a sadist. The heroine is very young, innocent and is putty in his hands. She quickly learns to enjoy everything he throws at her; she is submissive but finds her way through it to expose an inner strength. She yearns for her master, and he moulds her into the partner he craves. I got the impression he was doing this without realising that there would be an end product; one he craved.
<b>“May I ask you a question?” she asked hesitantly. He watched her through narrowed eyes before finally nodding. “What do you want from me?” His eyes flicked across her skin and when he licked his lower lip before speaking, Lily felt as though he were licking her. “Everything.”</b>
I felt Lily’s pain and her ecstasy; so great writing by the author. The authors writing it lyrical and poetic in places; she is able to describe things so perfectly it gave me the feeling of being a fly on the wall; observing and drinking in the scenes. The pace is fast and never dull; the sex scenes wild and totally erotic. The atmosphere in the Chateau is definitely ‘ghostly’; I presumed it related to his former wife but it wasn’t explored enough.
I wavered between 3/4*’s, and I only ever give a 4/5* rating if I know the book will be read again in future; that it’s really ‘special’. Ultimately I dropped 2*’s as it’s K.U., and if I really was in love with it I would have purchased it. As it wasn't clear to me how ‘Lily’ came to find herself in the situation with the Doctor towards the end, I found this part to be a bit weak. There may have been a point to it but it escaped me. However I'm glad there is a HEA but again the ending felt somewhat rushed; leaving me with too many unanswered questions. There was information given about Edward's wife but not enough to satisfy my curiosity or explain 'Edward'; I would love to have known more about their relationship.
I will definitely read more by this author and would highly recommend it to lovers of dark, delicious, non-con. The book was free with K.U.
